Cremation

Families often prefer to create a permanent memorial by placing cremated remains at St Kilda.  Establishing a cremation memorial at St Kilda celebrates a life and leaves a lasting tribute for future generations. It also provides peace of mind as your local cemetery provides perpetual care.

Your choices include a memorial in a garden or rose setting, a special tribute in a niche wall or a memorial seat.

Often families will create a token memorial, when the remains are interstate or overseas or even when they have been scattered.

Trees

A limited number of magnificent Bhutan Cyprus trees are available within the Michaelis Lawn.  These trees are located on either side of an ornate historic gate which was once used by passers-by to access the cemetery.

Each tree may be exclusively allocated to one family and allow for the placement of four plaques inside a raised bluestone bed edging.

Attractive magnolia trees are available within the Pavilion Lawn and the Entrance areas.  A limited number of trees within each area have been established to be exclusively allocated to a single family.  Up to four plaques can be placed around these trees.  Shared locations are also available.  In a shared situation, one family will purchase one side of the tree and another family will utilise the opposite side.  Shared locations allow for the placement of two plaques.

Cyprus trees which line Entrance Drive, the main thoroughfare within the cemetery, provide shared locations in a prominent and easily accessible area.

Garden Seat

A garden seat located just inside the ornamental gates at the front entrance of the cemetery allows for the placement of plaques and interment of cremated remains. Nestled within the Golden Privet hedge, these seat positions provide a restful place to visit and reflect.

The prestigious Pavilion lawn located within the heart of the cemetery also offers garden seat positions for the placement of cremated remains.

Roses

Rose memorials remain today, as they have for many years, one of the most popular choices. White ‘Saratoga’ and yellow ‘Friesia’ roses are available within the Entrance area for those who appreciate the simplicity and elegance of a rose location.

Shrubs

The Michaelis Lawn offers a landscaped shrub bed, located adjacent to the historic palisade boundary fence. Establishing a memorial within an evergreen shrub bed provides a tranquil and natural setting all year round.

Walls

Located within the landscaped front entrance of the cemetery, these solid granite walls are a traditional form of remembrance. A special compartment within the wall securely houses the cremated remains and is sealed with a personalised bronze plaque.

Adjacent to the ornamental gates at the entrance to the cemetery is a Granite Book memorial. This option provides a simple yet dignified form of remembrance with a bronze plaque being placed upon the book.

LifeGem

Diamonds are forever. Using a small portion of cremated remains, you can create a truly unique memorial. St Kilda can arrange for LifeGem Australia to create a diamond for you. Such gems are a beautiful and timeless form of remembrance that remain with you always.

Plaques & Urns

St Kilda Cemetery offers a range of plaques and granite bases to choose from. There are many ways to personalise a plaque e.g. through the use of photographs and emblems. The granite base provides a solid foundation and an attractive border for the plaque.

St Kilda also offers a range of urns which are suitable for either interment at a memorial, scattering, display or storage.  Urns are made from a variety of materials e.g. bronze, wood, ceramic and biodegradable cardboard.  They are also available in varying sizes to suit the specific needs of families.

Some families like to have the cremated remains divided and placed in keepsake urns.  This enables family members to create memorials close to home, regardless of whether they live in the country, interstate or overseas.

A range of quality jewellery has been specially designed and handcrafted by a local jeweller.

Each piece allows for a small amount of cremated remains to be sealed within the jewellery.  Available in either solid 9ct gold (yellow, white or rose) or sterling silver, these pieces will become cherished family heirlooms.
